Organised Crime
ORGANISED Crime’s amazing victory in last week’s Group 2 Horsham Cup after just a handful of starts, not only highlighted his own potential but the fact he is bred on a cross already proven to the highest of levels.
Organised Crime is by Bernardo from Easy Choice, the mother a Barcia Bale-Nicki Fields litter sister to superstar Hooked On Scotch, yet another of the Puleio damline to take the step to Group success.
Dam, Easy Choice, was a Sandown and Meadows winner among her nine victories and $31,000 career.
She won to 660m and was placed to 700m at Sandown.
Her mating to Bernardo was always going to be a winner.
Let’s see why.
Bernardo had been mated to Easy Choice’s half sister On The Runway (Fernando Bale-Nicki Fields) to produce a great litter that included Pass The Buck, Lamia Mila, Double Denim, Short And Stumpy, Hot Lips, Back To Scratch … all of them smart racetrack performers.
Bernardo is a son of KC And All the US racetrack great.
KC And All is best known in this country for his wonderful son Aston Rupee (KC And All-Aston Miley). Aston Miley is bred on the Barcia Bale/Elite Oriental cross … the same found in Easy Choice. Knocka Norris and Elite Oriental are littermates.
So, putting Easy Choice to a son of KC And All virtually guaranteed the mating would recreate Aston Rupee. No guarantees of course, but it appears to have done so in the form of Organised Crime.
But, it doesn’t end there.
Bernardo’s direct damline, that of the Queen Size influence, has been mated to Knocka Norris a number of times.
The most notable success has been that superstar sprinter Don’t Knocka Him the winner of the G1 Golden Easter Egg.
Some breeders sit back and try anything and everything when designing matings.,
Some, like Darren and Mick Puleio, actually look at what has been successful, endeavour to recreate it, and then reap the rewards.
WHICH brings me to Star Note (Fernando Bale-Extreme Jewel), who made his debut a winning one at The Meadows for the David Geall kennel last week.
Star Note ran 29.85 on debut to confirm his potential and justify his $1.20 starting price.
The fascinating thing about his pedigree is that Star Note’s mother Extreme Jewel (My Bro Fabio-Fair Of Face) is a litter sister to legend Wow She’s Fast.
While Wow She’s Fast won 20 races and pocketed $2.5 million in stakes, Extreme Jewel won 12 of 29 starts and earned $69,000 from multiple wins at Sandown and one at The Meadows and she was successful to 660m.
Yes, one hot young pup a great broodbitch does not make.
Extreme Jewel was mated, in my opinion, on a perfect and hugely proven cross when she went to Fernando Bale and whelped three dogs and three bitches in December 2024.
Her sire My Bro Fabio, and damsire Barcia Bale, have proven themselves over and over again when linking with Fernando Bale.
And, proven themselves to G1 level.
Woe She’s Fast, on the other hand, has been mated to US dog Bella Infrared and Irish study star Droopys Sydney.
Her Bella Infrared litter includes, three dogs and six bitches, was whelped in April 2024.
Refinement from the litter has won two of three including a 29.38 victory at Sandown.
But, She Will Satisfy has failed at her only start in a maiden at Angle Park, Electric Bell ran seventh at her only start in a maiden at The Meadows when beaten 19 lengths, and Plains Wanderer ran second at Angle Park in a maiden on debut.
Wow She’s Fast’s Droopys Sydney litter of seven dogs and six bitches was whelped in January, 2025. Five of the 10 have been named but none have raced being just 18 months.
Why Wow She’s Fast needed outcross matings is beyond me.
Her pedigree did not demand it, and the proven crosses that could be utilised were ignored.
Star Note’s Meadows victory presents him as a fine future prospect.
He is only living up to his pedigree.
