Zipping Ruger
IN my many conversations with Marty Hallinan about all things greyhound racing, he has always stressed that “designing” pedigrees is not his thing.
But, the worth of the bloodlines that have stood behind the Hallinan name for decades, has always provided the family with Group class gallopers.
It is the family of Spanish Dance (Nation Parade-Hopeful Light) and back to Hopeful Light (Benjamin John-Light Court) a foundation bitch if ever there was one.
Spanish Dance won the Vic Peters at Harold Park and became the dam of Miss Cruise, Tap Dance and Key Dancer and a host of other stars.
Spanish Dance’s litter sister, Hopeful Doll, was a superstar for Mike O’Byrne at the Gabba and held both the 558m and 704m track records.
Which brings me to Zipping Ruger (Zipping Kyrgios-Zipping Mitzy by Barcia Bale).
Last Thursday night, Jason Magri produced Zipping Ruger and his two littermates Zipping Saku and Zipping Tikka ran the trifecta in a 520m maiden at Wentworth Park.
Zipping Ruger ran 29.36 … yes, 29.36 on debut.
Obviously, Marty and his family must utilise their own stud dogs, and that is what they have done with that grand race campaigner Zipping Kyrgios.
Zipping Mitzy (Barcia Bale-Crafty Lady by Bit Chili) was a natural for him.
She had already produced the G1 star Zipping Megatron who has recently gone to stud with the Hallinans as well.
While, Marty admits to not being one to “design” matings, he certainly did a thorough job when Mitzy went to Kyrgios.
It is a fabulous pedigree of line breeding.
First, it brings in the highly proven Aussie Infrared/Barcia Bale cross that has provided so many great race dogs.
Aussie’s dam, Ebby Miss, is bred along almost identical lines to Barcia Bale.
But, Ruger and his fine littermates have a 3x2 of Tricky Gypsy (2 nd dam of Kyrgios) and Crafty Lady (dam of Mitzy).
They are virtual sisters, both by Bit Chili and both with that grand race bitch and producer Many Tricks as their second mother.
What this did was virtually put brother and sister together … even though it is not that obvious.
And the result? A 29.36 maiden winner at Wentworth Park on debut.
