Zipping Ariel
THE success on Saturday night at Wentworth Park of both Zipping Ariel and Taw Major in Group 3 finals, has tossed their respective sires Goodesy and Wow back into the spotlight.
Zipping Ariel (Goodesy-Zipping Truvy) won the G3 Ladies Bracelet, while Taw Major (Wow-Wayang Angel) landed the G3 Bob Payne Sprint.
Both have been classy gallopers for some time.
Goodesy (Collision-Frosty Fruits), a 2007 whelp who was sold off to China after a brief stud career, has come back into the spotlight in recent times thanks to Mick Ivers and the Hallinan family.
The Hallinan’s have used him a number of times with the standout being Zipping Willow (30 wins, $158,000).
But, Mick Ivers bred Freaky Tears to Goodesy and got Group stars Trooper Tears (20 wins, $429,000) and Trapper Tears (15 wins, $170,000).
Zipping Ariel has always been a fine race bitch finishing third in the G2 Qld Futurity ad making the final of the Million Dollar Chase, G1 Peter Mosman Opal, G1 Wheeler and G2 Brother Fox.
The Hallinans, by their own admission, are never ones to study what lines match with which.
Putting that former star stayer Zipping Truvy (a litter sister to sire Zipping Garth) was still a fine mating on the pedigree it produced.
It brings in a fabulous 2x4 duplication and balance of Collision.
But, it also reinforces Just The Best and Token Prince, both of who are found strongly placed in sire and dam.
Just The Best’s dam Flying Amy, and Token Prince’s dam True Temptation, are virtual sisters both being by Amerigo Man from the Bay Road Queen damline.
Goodesy’s mother Frosty Fruits is by Just The Best from a daughter of Token Prince.
Zipping Ariel’s 2nd dam, Zipping Abby, also carries the Just The Best/Token Prince cross.
WHICH brings us to Taw Major
His sire Wow, winner of the G1 Temlee and a record-breaking sprinter, struggled to make an impact when he first went to stud until recent times.
The Taw Major litter, and that Mark Moroney bred in Grafton, are standouts.
Taw Major was second in the G1 Vic Peters, and a finalist in the G2 Bulli Gold Cup, G3 Magic Maiden and MDChase Consolation.
He has strong line breeding 3x3 to Where’s Pedro balanced via daughter and son.
He has a 5x4 double and balance of Black Shiraz.
He comes from the very same direct damline as the great Keybow.
There is MUCH in the pedigree of Taw Major to say his sisters can make it at stud.
