Nangar Rookie

I’VE written so often before of the powerful, Group 1 proven link between Hooked On Scotch and Fabregas.

Examples of this cross working include such greats as Power And Glory, Off The Chart, Dewana Star, Postman Pat etc.

It is the link that Misty Fields (2 nd dam of Hooked On Scotch) and Fabregas have.

They both bring in Black Shiraz and Larkhill Jo and they provide an ideal “balance” for each of those in any pedigree in which they meet up.

That cross was evident when Nangar Rookie (Hooked On Scotch-Nangar Silk by Fernando Bale) downed his litter brother Nangar Mystery to win last week’s time honoured Grafton July Maiden Classic.

Their litter sister, Nangar Dixie, was unlucky in the race finishing fourth after finding first-turn trouble.

But, there is no Fabregas in the dam of Nangar Rookie … I hear you asking.

That might be right, but the pedigree of Nangar Rookie’s dam Nangar Silk brings in both Black Shiraz and Larkhill Jo.

Nangar Silk is bred along similar lines to Fabregas, which makes Misty Fields and Nangar Silk much the same.

Nangar Silk has been a special broodbitch for the Barnes family already producing Nangar Jim (by Aston Dee Bee) the winner of the G2 Maitland Cup, G3 Temora Cup and being a finalist in the G1 Easter Egg among many other Group placings and finals berths.

That litter also contained Nangar Gypsy the winner of the G1 Golden Sands, and Heidi McGraw who also won the July Maiden Classic at Grafton and ran a Temora track record.

To prove again that quality race bitches far outperform at stud those who do not have great race careers, Nangar Silk was a finalist herself in the G1 Peter Mosman Opal.
