WEEKEND racing over at Cannington was interesting to say the least.
What I found most fascinating was the early progeny of superstar Tommy Shelby.
Sneaky Peaky (Tommy Shelby-Joker Poker by Barcia Bale) has made the final of next weekend's G2 WA Derby, his litter brother Wolf Man won a Novice in 30.11, and another of his offspring West On Boonie (Tommy Shelby-West On Violet by Barcia Bale) won a maiden in 29.94.
Take a close look at all three.
They are by Tommy Shelby and their dams are by Barcia Bale.
When Barcia Bale mated Tommy Shelby's mother Serena Fly High it produced superstar Jungle Deuce.
Jungle Deuce won 25 and earned $655,000.
He won the G1 Paws Of Thunder, G1 Gold Bullion, G2 Flying Amy Classic, G2 Golden Sands, G3 New Sensation, Dubbo Cup Listed, Origin Match Listed and he holds the TR at Dubbo. He was also been a finalist in the G1 Topgun, G1 Rookie Rebel and The Phoenix.
It made sense to mate daughters of Barcia Bale to Tommy Shelby to go some of the way to recreate Jungle Deuce.
But, it also brought in the now highly proven cross of Fernando Bale and Barcia Bale (think Crumble Monelli as just one example).
The pedigree put together to create Sneaky Peaky and Wolf Man was inspired.
Take a look at the pedigree of the dam Joker Poker (10 wins, $45,000).
She is Barcia Bale-Kerrigan Bale by High Earner and is bred along VERY similar lines to Dyna Double One. In fact, she is a virtual sister to him so close are their pedigrees.
Joker Poker is a litter sister to top stayer Just Terms (19 wins, $283,000).
The second dam Kerrigan Bale was third in the G1 Paws Of Thunder and a sister to G1 stars Dyna Nico and Lamia Bale.
WHICH brings me to West On Boonie whose dam West On Violet (Barcia Bale-Zelemar Fever by Bombastic Shiraz) won eight and $51,000.
She came from a litter of 11 (yes 11) and all were winners.
Next dam, Zelemar Fever, won the G1 Temlee and this is the famous direct damline of Richie Dean's legend National Lass.
Zelemar Fever's dam Noaki Pace was a litter sister to G1 Perth Cup winner Oaks Road the NSW GOTY.
West On Boonie's pedigree not only brings in the Jungle Deuce cross, but duplicates and balances Bombastic Shiraz 4x3 via son and daughter, and links the famous half brothers Big Daddy Cool and Brett Lee 4x5 but placed to impact.
Which means Serena Fly High is bred on a similar cross to Zelemar Fever.
JOHNNY Dart has always had an opinion of Wendy Rocks (Sennachie-Eleanor Rascal by Cosmic Rumble).
She's already a sub-30 second winner at Albion Park but has been crying out for more distance virtually from the time Darty put her into work.
She won in 35.13 at Albion Park the other night.
Her pedigree is fabulous and shows a 3x3 of Kinloch Brae and Premier Fantasy who bring in the virtual brothers Fortress and Murlens Slippy placed to impact.
They are both by I'm Slippy and their 2nd dams are sisters.
BIG Energy is making a name for himself.
The son of Aussie Infrared-Amo Bailar by Fernando Bale has won in 28.93 at Sandown and on Saturday night went 29.60 at The Meadows.
With that sort of speed, his pedigree deserves a close look.
He is bred on the highly proven Aussie Infrared/Hallucinate cross.
But, he carries a very strong 2x3 of Ebby Miss and Osti's Bride who are bred along almost identical lines ... a proven recipe in the best progeny sired by Aussie Infrared.
These bitches run to Head Bound and his half brother Brett Lee respectively.
And, they also run to the fame Osti Lee family...Ebby Miss to Paris Match (found in Hallucinate).
CLASSIC Touch is a promising dog.
By Beast Unleashed-Irisize by Brett Lee, Classic Touch has a 3x3 of the littermates Knocka Norris and Elite Oriental.
That great speedster Oriental Amber is bred on a huge reinforcement of this line as well.
