Ray Burman has the midas touch...Or could it be that he knows his hugely successful broodbitch line backwards.

Maybe it's a bit of both.

On Saturday night at Ipswich, the first runners from the Burman's multiple Group winning and multiple track record breaking bitch Champagne Sally (Barcia Bale-Bizarre Barbie by Velocette) made the racetrack, at the tender age of 18 months.

They are by Darren Puleio's now Ireland-based stud dog, Group 1 winning Out Of Range (Fernando Bale-Nicki Fields by Knocka Norris), a litter brother to Group 1 star Poke The Bear and a half brother to Group 1 star Hooked On Scotch (by Barcia Bale).

The Burman's Champagne Jazzy (Out Of Range-Champagne Sally) burst onto the racetrack winning her race debut in 30.55 a best of the night performance, scoring by six lengths and coming out of box five.

Mary Burman was glowing in praise of the bitch, a magnificent 30.3kg specimen.

But, Mary had some news about the litter.

They are special, said Mary. Two others have already trialled under 29.90 around Albion Park. All eight of those in the Burman kennel will be Thursday night Albion Park class and five of them are "special" including Champagne Jazzy.

So, what did Ray Burman achieve when he put together the Out Of Range-Champagne Sally mating.

First off, he was using an unproven stud dog who eventually was tested up to 700m after winning the Silver Chief and National Derby as a youngster.

What Ray did was partially recreate the pedigree of superstar Hooked On Scotch (Barcia Bale-Nicki Fields) the multiple Group 1 winner who held the Sandown track record until late last year.

He has now become a very popular stud dog in his first season.

Out Of Range is out of Nicki Fields and Champagne Sally is by Barcia Bale ... thus half of the mating Ray Burman put together is a recreation of Hooked On Scotch.

It does not end there.

Nicki Fields is by Knocka Norris, the Queensland-bred and raced Group 1 and track record breaking sprinter who was tragically sold to China before it became obvious he was a very good sire.

One of the very best gallopers sire by Knocka Norris was a dog called Top Story, while also from that litter was Poetic Mover.

Top Story won 17 races including a 29.65 victory at Albion Park and chased home champion Glen Gallon when second in the Group 1 Winter Carnival Cup. He was also a finalist in the Group 2 Qld Derby.

Poetic Mover was also a finalist in that very same Winter Carnival Cup.

Top Story and Poetic Mover were out of a bitch called Bomber Babe (Bombastic Shiraz-Up And Down) and they were bred by Ray and Mary Burman.

Bizarre Barbie, dam of Champagne Sally, is also bred on the same Bombastic Shiraz-Up And Down cross as Bomber Babe.

Proven crosses all round ... that Ray Burman can be rightly proud of what he has put together, in the past and now for the future.
