IT would not be lost on pedigree fanatics that the G1 Temlee and G1 Zoom Top at The Meadows last Saturday night had a decided influence from a bloodline that keeps on keeping on.
Sharapova Star (Fernando Bluey-Midnight Snooze by Barcia Bale) was in the Temlee and Magpie Hector (Feral Franky-Sunset Bourbski by Fernando Bale) won the Zoom Top.
Sharapova Star’s pedigree is fascinating and should be analysed by anyone interested in bloodlines.
The standout feature of her pedigree is that she is in-bred 2x1 to Naughty Cazza and Midnight Snooze who are virtual sisters.
Both carry Go Wild Teddy (balanced 5x3x6 via two daughters and a son), Bombastic Shiraz (4x4 balanced via son and daughter), and litter sisters Remember Molly and Naughty Thoughts 4x5.
Sharapova Star’s granddam, G1 Sandown Cup finalist Midnight Elsa, is in-bred to that most famous of broodbitches Ready To Rain.
Midnight Elsa is also the second dam of G1 Vic Peters runner-up Flash Boom Bang.
Sharapova Star has won 24 races and earned $188,000. She is a flying speedster which some may think strange considering the strength that is found in both sides of her pedigree.
But, that’s what intense in-breeding “can” do to offspring … bring in great pace.
Her litter sister, Ferrets Knock is a 29.24 winner at Sandown and 29.90 at The Meadows and winner of the Pink Diamond Princess.
Their mother, Midnight Snooze won three races but one of those was over 595m at Sandown.
She is a litter sister to Best On ground who has produced Young Star the runner-up in a G1 Hobart 1000 and third in the G3 Devonport Chase.
If we trace back to Sharapova Star’s fourth dam, Midnight Movie, we find she produced superstar stayer Bourbski Fever a G1 winner of the Bold Trease who is turn produced top stayer Sunset Bourbski.
Her daughter, Sweet Bourbski, just happens to be the 2 nd mother of the Zoom Top winner Magpie Hector, and his litter brother G1 Topgun winner Slick Splits.
It is amazing the number of high class offspring from this family that has done so well when their pedigree has been hugely reinforced within itself.
It certainly augurs well for Sharapova Star to become a broodbitch success.
