Hoo Gur Affair

LEADING sire Barcia Bale landed both winners of South Australia's Group 3 classics, the Derby and Oaks, last week at Angle Park, but it wasn't he who took my attention.

Hoo Gur Affair (Barcia Bale-Gold Affair Two by Texas Gold) won the Oaks and Black Bombshell (Barcia Bale-Tearabout Tears by Knocka Norris) won the Derby.

Both are very, very promising youngsters.

Hoo Gur Affair was having her ninth start during which she has won five and been second three times for $38,000 in stakes, and has already won at both Meadows and Sandown for Angela Langton.

Black Bombshell took his record to nine wins and three placings for $62,000 in stakes with his Derby victory for WA's Enzo Crudeli and eight of those wins have come at Cannington.

What was so interesting about the pair is their link to the famed Michael and Helen Ivers breed.

Hoo Gur Affair is out of the former top class staying bitch Gold Affair Two a daughter of the Ivers' family's great staying champ Texas Gold (Flying Penske-Shezy Swifty).

As a staying star, Texas Gold was always going to be a hard sell as a stud dog but he did well enough despite moderate opportunities.

The Group 2 winner and Group 1 finalist Drill 'Em was a classy son for him, while the bitch Gold Heritage won the Group 2 Cranbourne Cup and was second in a Perth Cup.

What is really interesting about the pedigree of Hoo Gur Affair is the fact her direct damline runs to Little Gorgeous. This is the same direct damline of Osti Lee who is found in-bred in the pedigree of Barcia Bale's damsire Hallucinate.

Black Bombshell, the Derby winner, is out of Tearabout Tears (Knocka Norris-Tonto Tears).

Champion stayer Space Star is by Bekim Bale from Tonto Tears. This is the direct damline back to the Ivers' Family's grand staying champion Trojan Tears.

I remember visiting the Ivers' Kurwongbah (Qld) property when Trojan Tears was just a puppy being reared.

BUT, there is a very strong similarity between Black Bombshell and Space Star.

Yes, they are from the same direct damline of Tonto Tears.

Space Star's sire Bekim Bale is by Bartrim Bale. Black Bombshell's sire Barcia Bale is out of Princess Bale who just happens to be a litter sister to Bartrim Bale.

In these two pedigrees, Texas Gold and Tonto Tears are both by US stud superstars and their dams have a very strong New Tears influence.

Tearaway Tears (second dam of Tonto Tears) is bred on the same Gun Law Osti/New Tears cross as legend Brett Lee.

UP on the Northern Rivers, youthful Ryan Newstead landed his first group winner when Terra Torra (Don't Knocka Him-Kingsbrae Sam by Bit Chili) won the Group 3 Casino Cup.

Bought by Ryan and his dad Billy from breeder Charlie Northfield as a pup, Terra Torra is from the direct damline of Brindle County a bitch Billy Northfield brought north to found a dynasty.

Terra Torra carries the highly successful duplication and balance of Solve The Puzzle found in Unlawful Entry and Punch One out the very best progeny sired by Knocka Norris (sire of Don't Knocka Him).

I also found the pedigree of the Casino Cup placegetters Warrior Rose and Snug very interesting.

Warrior Rose (Magic Sprite-Made In Roses by Made To Size) had his litter brother Poppy's Rose as a Casino Cup finalist as well.

Third placed Snug is by Fabregas-Befitting by Made To Size.

The influence of Made To Size, former Albion Park 520m track record holder, is these litters interested me. He got a good crack at being a successful stud dog and had some success. I always felt his daughters would do best with Magic Sprite and Warrior Rose is a good example.

It brings in the litter brothers Curryhills Fox and Curryhill Brute (found in Magic Sprite's classy, but luckless, son Sulzanti).

Warrior Rose's dam Made In Roses is line bred 3x3 to the half sisters Ultra Queen and Crescent Ability who are both out of Timmy Billin's former smart bitch Crescent Queen.

Crescent Queen's third dam Classy Zoom was a finalist in the NSW St Leger and is a full sister to the immortal Zoom Top.

Casino Cup third placegetter Snug is out of the Made To Size bitch Befitting a Group 1 class stayer for the late Barry Dull.

Snug is line bred to the half relations Bearability and Kissin Bobbie both out of Kissy Bear. Kissy Bear's second dam is a half sister to legend Temlee.

The Fabregas cross with the Kissy Bear damline has already worked with good success. Kissy Bear was a "way over the top" bitch and line breeding her successfully needed to wait to be diluted back in a pedigree.
