Jay Is Jay

MICK and Selena Zammit are getting themselves set for a looming stud career for their champion Jay Is Jay.

And, they have every right to expect the son of Sennachie-Kealoah to become a fine sire, if not a great one.

There is already precedence to say he will.

Jay Is Jay, of course, has established his credentials for a stud career with victory in the Million Dollar Chase, but even more importantly he has run the two fastest ever race winning times at Albion Park, the track record of 29.35 and the next best of 29.37.

He is a "rocket".

Add to that victory in the G2 Qld Derby, G2 Gold Ticket, G3 Gold Ticket, G3 Qld Flame, a second place in the G1 Topgun, G1 Gold Bullion and a final berth in The Phoenix and you've got anything and everything a stud dog could be expected to have.

He has won 22 races and earned $1.54 million.

But, he's also by Sennachie whose Albion Park track record he eclipsed, and from Kealoah a prolific winner, sound as a bell and tough, who was a litter sister to a G1 finalist.

AND, Jay Is Jay's litter is fabulous, including All Natural (20 wins, $288,000, Bberg TR, G2 Bberg Cup, 2nd G1 Gold Bullion, a litter that has won $2.1 million, and also includes Daysea's Rowdy (9 wins, $58,000), Go Bing (14 wins, $108,000), Cluster (15 wins, $93,000) and Here Wolfe (9 wins, $55,000).

It is full of Group performers.

It's so obvious why Jay Is Jay can make it at stud.

But, there is another precedence why.

That is, Jay Is Jay is a virtual clone of Tommy Shelby (Fernando Bale-Serena Fly High by Bit Chili) the $1 million winner, multiple G1 success, and now one of the boom young stud dogs in the country.

For those interested, do a Greyhound Data check on their pedigrees and it will soon become obvious how closely bred are Jay Is Jay and Tommy Shelby.

First, they are both from the Fernando Bale sireline.

Next, their mothers are bred on an identical Bombastic Shiraz/Big Daddy Cool/Token Prince cross.

And, to top off all that, Tommy Shelby traces along his direct damline to an incestuously in-bred bitch called Velvet Fire.

Jay Is Jay has a cross of Collision in his direct damline and Collision traces to a dog called Hot Rumble in his pedigree.

Velvet Fire and Hot Rumble are sister and brother.

So, broodbitch owners wanting to work out which way to successfully breed to Jay Is Jay when he does retire to stud will only have to look at the crosses that work with Tommy Shelby.

The first, and most obvious, will be bitches with Barcia Bale in their make-up.

The next is bitches with DAUGHTERS of Bombastic Shiraz, a hugely proven duplication and balance found in most of the best progeny of Tommy Shelby already.

Have a look at the pedigree of Tommy's recent G1 Perth Cup winner Uncle Tommy and G1 WA Galaxy winner West On Boonie. It's proof positive.

Travis Elson, who has become sick and tired of chasing home Jay Is Jay with his slick team of sprinters, is the greatest fan of his rival.

Travis is in awe of just how great a chaser is Jay Is Jay and admits it to anyone.

Jay Is Jay has nothing to prove on the racetrack.

His stud career is much anticipated.
