RYAN Ayre is a clever young man, hard working, with a family that backs him to the hilt.

He is devoted to greyhounds, has been since he was a kid.

He's had success, like the Group 2 victory of Bogie Blue in the Ipswich Gold Cup a few years ago. He and leading breeder, owner Les Bein forged a friendship and a partnership with that success.

It is a partnership that has led to a Group 1 National Derby victory with Bogie King (Collision-Bogie Skye by Surf Lorian) and almost led to a victory by his litter sister bogie Beltah in the Group 1 National Futurity.

I remember Ryan discussing this very mating with me a couple of years ago.

The minute I looked at it, I liked it.

I've always suggested Collision and Surf Lorian are an ideal match. Surf Lorian because he has three SON strains of Brother Fox dominating his pedigree, Collision because he has just the one cross of Brother Fox via his daughter Follow Through. Because of this, the pair are a match made in heaven. Both need the balancing effect the other provides to any mating they are involved in.

Rev Limiter, that very smart Victorian sprinter, is one of the first bred on this cross to prove its worth. He is by Collision from the Surf Lorian bitch Beachley a very smart Melbourne winner and significantly a sister to champion Slater and his multiple Group winning brother Big Swell.

What Ryan and Les did when mating Bogie Skye (the winner of eight races and a litter sister to a Group performer) was bring in three significant sex balances to a pedigree.

So what have Ryan and Les designed.

Malawi's Prince is a very important and dominant ancestor within the pedigree of Collision. Duplicating Malawi's Prince within the pedigree of Collision's offspring has worked exceptionally well. High Earner and Dana Beatrice are just two of this crosses best examples. Malawi's Prince comes along the alternate sex path in the pedigree of Collision.

The fact Bogie Skye has Malawi's Prince within her pedigree, and significantly via a son (Placard) is ideal.

So then we turn to Surf Lorian.

If we look at his alternate sex path it runs via Barrio Fiesta, then down to Dee Bee who is a daughter of New Tears. When mating Bogie Skye, it was always going to be valuable to try to duplicate New Tears and hopefully via a SON. Collision has New Tears' son Light Of Fire along his paternal line.

So here we have a pedigree that brings in significant ancestors, both along the alternate sex path on both sides of the pedigree.

Add to that, Acacia Park is also sex balanced via his son Acacia Ablaze and daughter Youngarra.

Collision, of course via Follow Through, also sex balances the many crosses of Brother Fox in the pedigree of Bogie Skye.

And last but surely not the least, this is the damline of quality gallopers. Bogie Skye could run. She is a brother to a Group performer. Their dam could run and she has been a fine producer - still is. And this is the damline of World Title the record breaking sprinter.

Ryan knew what he was doing when he devised the mating that produced Bogie King. And now he and his mate Les are reaping the rewards.

P.S. If Bogie Beltah was my bitch, I'd look to a mating to Superman with her.
