Indictment
SOME very interesting pedigree designs popped up during the past week and they all deserve analysis.
First, there is "boom" youngster Indictment (Jury-Velocity Onyx by Barcia Bale). His 29.69 win at Albion Park last Thursday night was simply awesome. He is yet another of the Tony Brett/Steve Williams partnership to prove himself.
And, he is a real Steve Williams home-bred, by another Brett/Williams star in multiple Group winner Jury from Velocity Onyx (Barcia Bale-Velocity Mist by Mogambo) tracing to Velocity Cloud who Steve bred back in 2007.
The combination of bloodlines in the pedigree of Indictment is fabulous to study.
It shows a 2x4x4 of Cosmic Chief (in Jury) and the brothers Hallucinate and Where's Pedro (in Velocity Onyx) who are all bred on the Brett Lee/Bobniak cross.
It shows a 4x3 double of Go Wild Teddy via sons.
It shows a double 5x4 of Bombastic Shiraz a cross proving itself more and more.
And it shows four crosses of Brett Lee 3x5x5x5 balanced via three sons and a daughter.
Dam, Velocity Onyx, is already in-bred 3x3 to Hallucinate and his brother Where's Pedro but balanced via daughter and son.
I hear all the time a concern about doubling Go Wild Teddy in pedigrees. That's rubbish. Easter Egg runner-up Federal Lilly is in-bred to Go Wild Teddy. It will be seen more and more in time.
While Indictment was scorching the Albion Park sand, down in Victoria Invictus Rising (Invictus Rapid-Jubilation by Collision) was doing the same at Sandown winning in 29.26.
He, too, is from the same damline as Indictment tracing to Velocity Cloud (2nd dam of Invictus Rising). Champion Black Opium is from the same damline.
Harry Manolitsis did the mating of Invictus Rapid (Cosmic Rumble-Miss Fiesty by Pure Octane) to Jubilation who was already the dam of star sprinter Flynn (by Kinloch Brae).
Harry has told me personally he had a litter brother to Invictus Rising who was lengths better but was tragically injured in a trial as a youngster.
Invictus Rising shows line breeding 3x2 to the half relations Spiritual Rumble and Collision, a 4x3 double and balance of Awesome Assassin, a 4x5 double and balance of Token Prince, a 4x6x4 triple of Brett Lee all through daughters and lots of balances to Malawi's Prince.
The mating introduces a 2x3 of identically bred Miss Fiesty and Subjective Lee.
WHILE Cosmic Chief is grandsire of Indictment, he is also found in the direct damline of new Sandown 595m track record breaker Collinda Patty (Zambora Brockie-She's A Collinda by Cosmic Chief).
Collinda Patty ran 33.56 to eclipse Dyna Double One's Sandown middle distance record.
Her pedigree shows a 3x2 cross of Crazy Jo (2nd dam of Zambora Brockie) and Cosmic Chief who are bred along very similar lines.
Again, a double of Bombastic Shiraz is brought in 3x4 and both times via SONS. Being a female, Collinda Patty does the balancing of this mating herself.
ANOTHER Sandown winner whose pedigree I found fascinating is Orca (Stagger-Mignon by Bobby Boucheau). He ran 34.85 at Sandown.
Dam Mignon is in-bred 3x3 to the famed US sprinter and hall of famer EJ's Douglas. It would be very rare indeed for such a mating to be done in this country.
So, when Mignon was mated to Stagger it brought in an absolutely fabulous 4x4 link between the famous half relations Head Honcho and Advert who have worked so, so well when linked to each other.
Advert is the 3rd mother of Group star Hasten Slowly (Fernando Bale-Heidi Go Seek) who just happens to have the Head Honcho/Advert link in his pedigree and positioned to impact.
That great staying bitch Lady Toy (Our Toyman-Railway Shiraz) has Head Honcho/Advert 3x3 in her pedigree.
