Typhoon Sammy

JOHN Dart hasn't lived on the Northern Rivers of NSW for decades not to have the locals rub off on he and his greyhound racing ideals.

Darty, his wife Glenda and son Sam, were floating on Saturday night when their dog Typhoon Sammy (Aston Dee Bee-Zabaleta by Magic Sprite) swept to a Bendigo track record and a spot in the G2 Bendigo Cup final next weekend.

Johnny has been training stars from the damline for decades and reaping the rewards of its success via the Northfield family.

It was the Northfield legend Bill who brought Brindle County (Little Denver-Short County by Pretty Short) to the Rivers and started a dynasty.

Brindle County is the fifth mother of Typhoon Sammy.

John's son Sam owned Typhoon Sammy's mother Zabaleta (Magic Sprite-Sacheen's Wish by Big Daddy Cool) and she was a special short courser winning 25 races for $41,000 in stakes. She went in the low 22.50s around Albion Park.

Her mother, Sacheen's Wish (Big Daddy Cool-Proper Jessica by Proper Tears), was also a hot sprinter. She won 14 and $24,000 but won over both 5210m and 600m at Albion Park.

She came from a litter that included G3 Casino Cup finalists Big Cool Ronny and Tequila Breeze.

John Dart trained her half sister, Hillcrest Gwen, to make a G1 Brisbane Cup final.

Proper Jessica (Proper Tears-Pretty Jacalyn by Star Title) is the third dam of Typhoon Sammy.

She is also the dam of prolific winner Proper Lucy and she is turn is the dam of Mitcharlie Mia (38 wins, $145,000).

And, Mitcharlie Mia has since become the mother of Kooringa Lucy (29 wins, $168,000) who keeps making Group finals with regularity. Burnt Ends, a litter brother to Kooringa Lucy, is a Casino TR breaker and Albion Park feature race winner and Group finalist.

He has won 18 races and earned $93,000.

There are so many good race dogs from this direct damline they are impossible to list.

John Dart and his family have known from the start what a great race dog Typhoon Sammy is.

Dart describes him as the most magnificent of individuals and his now trainer Jason Thompson is the first to agree. Thompson believes he can win a Topgun and/or Melbourne Cup.

The pedigree the Dart family put together to produce such a race dog is fabulous.

It brings in the tried and true "nick" between Barcia Bale and Magic Sprite ... found in G1 stars Fast Times and Zack Monelli.

It introduces two male line crosses of Brett Lee, but the balancing act of his half brother Big Daddy Cool through a daughter.

And, it brings in a 4x3 cross of the identically bred Elite State and Big Daddy Cool.

But, to top off all of this, the famed litter sisters Zulu Moss and Riviera Moss are reinforced via the direct damline Bombastic Shiraz, Aston Dee Bee himself (through Riviera Tiger) and the damline of Magic Sprite.

It was a pedigree of explosive pace, and that's what it has produced.
